Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has achieved a significant milestone in his cricket career by surpassing 250 wickets in the T20 format, making him the third Afghan player to achieve this feat. This accomplishment occurred during the 18th match of the Big Bash League 2023-24 season, where he played for the Melbourne Renegades against Adelaide Strikers.
Mujeeb, at the age of 22, has showcased exceptional skills in the T20 format, drawing parallels with his compatriot Rashid Khan. With a remarkable three-wicket haul against Adelaide Strikers, Mujeeb’s total wickets in T20s now stands at 251, demonstrating his prowess as one of the finest young spinners globally.
Notably, he has also exceeded 50 wickets in the Big Bash League (BBL) with 52 wickets at an average of 24.84. While Mujeeb’s future looks promising in T20 leagues, there is uncertainty about his participation in IPL 2024 due to recent sanctions imposed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board.
Despite these challenges, Mujeeb remains a valuable asset, having been acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 auction for Rs. 2 crore.
