IPL Match Bhav Tips : Gautam Gambhir Reveals the Most Challenging Bowler He Faced in His Illustrious Career

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, renowned as one of the premier openers of his time, recently shared insights into the most formidable bowler he encountered during his illustrious playing career. Having made his international debut in 2003, Gambhir showcased his batting prowess across 58 Test matches, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20Is for India.

Throughout his cricketing journey, Gambhir amassed 4154 runs in Tests, featuring nine centuries and 22 fifties, maintaining an average of 41.95. In ODIs, he scored 5238 runs at an average of 39.68, with a commendable strike rate of 85.25. His T20I contributions amounted to 932 runs, showcasing a strike rate of 119.02.

The two-time World Cup winner played a pivotal role in India’s triumphs at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Additionally, he received recognition as the ICC Test Player of the Year in 2009. Over the course of his career, Gambhir faced numerous legendary bowlers, including the likes of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar, Dale Steyn, James Anderson, and more.

When asked to name the toughest bowler he faced during his career, Gambhir singled out former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. Muralitharan retired as one of the most decorated bowlers in cricket history, holding records for the most Test and ODI wickets. His tally of 800 Test wickets and over 530 ODI wickets remains unparalleled.

Notably, Muralitharan surpassed Wasim Akram’s ODI record of 502 wickets by dismissing Gambhir in 2009. Currently serving as the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, Gambhir brings his wealth of experience to the T20 franchise after previously mentoring the Lucknow Super Giants in the last two seasons of the tournament.
