The loss of Jonny Bairstow for Punjab Kings came with less than a week to the start of the next Indian Premier League (IPL). The English batsman, who is known as one of the game’s most lethal batters, has been dropped from the Punjab team after failing to make a full recovery from his injury.

Matthew Short has been selected by Punjab Kings to take his spot.
“We hate to tell you that due to his injury, Jonny Bairstow will not be playing in the IPL this season. We wish him the best and hope to see him again the following season.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), according to a report, declined to provide Bairstow a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in the IPL. In September of last year, Bairstow had a leg injury that he hasn’t fully recovered from.
After suffering several fractures as a result of a strange slide on the golf course in September 2022, Bairstow missed England’s T20 World Cup winning campaign as well as the ensuing Test trips to Pakistan and New Zealand.
On the other side, Short is a young, uncapped cricketer from Australia who prefers to bat but can also contribute some off-spin. In the most recent Big Bash League (BBL) season, he was named Player of the Tournament and ended second in runs scored. Short totaled 458 runs at a 144.47 strikeout-to-run ratio.
Throughout the course of the competition, Short also smashed the ball a lot. He defeated the Hobart Hurricanes with an unbroken 100 in a 230-run chase.
11 wickets were taken by Short at an economy rate of 7.13 while bowling. Short is a player who excels in all formats and has three hundreds to his credit in first-class and List A cricket.
