IPL TOSS BHAVISHYAVANI : Eoin Morgan has been fined Rs 12 lakh for his slow over-rate against Chennai Super Kings

Eoin Morgan, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has been fined Rs 12 lakh for sustaining a slow over-rate during his team’s IPL 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, which KKR lost by 18 runs. Morgan got away with a Rs 12 lakh fine because this was KKR’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 21,” the IPL said in a statement.

“Mr Morgan was fined Rs 12 lakh because it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences,” it said.

On the first instance of slow over-rate, the captain of the offending team is fined Rs 12 lakh, according to IPL rules. The captain’s fine is doubled (Rs 24 lakh) on the second offence, while any other member of the playing XI is fined 25% of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh, whichever is less.

When the offence is done for the third time in a season, the captain faces a fine of Rs 30 lakh and a one-match suspension, while the rest of the playing XI faces a fine of Rs 12 lakh or 50% of the match fee, whichever is less.

CSK posted a mammoth total of 220/3 in their allotted 20 overs in match number 15 of the ongoing IPL, then bundled out KKR for 202 to earn their third victory of the tournament and rise to the top of the points table.
