Kieron Pollard is one of the most deadly batsmen in the world, capable of dismissing any bowling attack on his day. He is a right-handed batsman who normally bats in the lower middle order for West Indies and bowls medium pace. For the West Indies, Mumbai Indians, and a few other club sides, he is known for his deadly batting and brilliant fielding.

Career

Domestic Career

Pollard and his two younger sisters were adopted by a single mother. He lived in isolation for the first few years of his life. He was called to be a part of the West Indies Under-19 team that was about to tour Pakistan after playing for the Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 team in the 2005 TCL group challenge. After some strong results, he was called to be a part of the West Indies Under-19 team that was about to tour Pakistan. Later, he represented Sri Lanka in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup. He was called up to the senior Trinidad and Tobago squad in July 2006. He made his first-class debut against Barbados six months back. In a match where he scored 86 of his 126 runs off boundaries only, he demonstrated his ability to clear the fence.His match-winning performances secured him a spot on the West Indies World Cup squad in 2007. In a 2009 Champions League match against New South Wales, he showed off his hard-hitting for Trinidad and Tobago. In his 54-run innings off 18 hits, he hit five sixes to help his team score.

IPL Career

He was acquired by the Mumbai Indians in the 2010 IPL Auction, and he is now a core member of the team. He had a good first season, but only had two disappointing seasons after that. He made a good start to the 2013 season, hitting 420 runs to help his team win their first championship. Pollard smashed 78 off 48 balls while chasing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2014 season, but he was dismissed in the last over by Irfan Pathan, and Mumbai lost the match. Pollard scored a vital 28 off just 12 balls in Mumbai’s first game at Wankhede against Punjab, helping the team to their first victory of the season.Pollard was once again a key player in Mumbai’s 2015 title-winning season, scoring 419 runs. Against Rajasthan, Pollard scored 70 runs off 48 balls with seven boundaries and five sixes, but Mumbai lost the contest. He followed it up with another 64 runs off 34 balls, including five sixes, against Chennai, but Mumbai were unable to protect their total once more. Pollard joined Rayudu in the chase against the Delhi Daredevils and smashed a quick-fire 26* off only 14 balls to ensure victory. In the same week, he scored 49 runs off just 24 balls, including six sixes, but Mumbai were unable to chase down RCB’s massive tally. In a must-win game against Kolkata, Pollard and Hardik Pandya batted patiently to help Mumbai cross 171.The KKR chase was led by Yususf Pathan’s brilliant half-century, and the equation was 12 runs required off the final over. With the ball in his possession, Pollard dismissed Pathan on the first ball, then conceded 6 runs in the next two balls before returning with three dot balls to help Mumbai to a vital victory. In 2019, Pollard did not have the best IPL season. He did, however, play a couple of vital innings for his club, the Mumbai Indians, once again. Mumbai were asked to bat first in a low-scoring match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and lost their top three players inside the first 10 overs.Provided Mumbai’s bowling, Pollard began his massacre in the 17th over, hitting four sixes and two fours in that process to make 46* off 26 balls and giving Mumbai a defendable total of 136. Mumbai bowled Hyderabad out for 96 runs, with West Indian Alzarri Joseph taking six wickets for 12 runs in his debut. In 2020, Pollard became the first player in franchise history to play 150 games for the Mumbai Indians for the 11th year in a row.

International Career

Pollard made his One-Day International debut against South Africa in a 2007 World Cup match on April 10th. He scored 10 runs off 17 balls and failed to pick up a wicket. He did not appear in all of the remaining World Cup matches. In 2012, he scored his first international century against India in Chennai. He played the longest innings of his career, scoring 119 runs off 110 balls to take West Indies from 5-78 to 233 in a single-handed effort. In 2012, he showed his brilliance by scoring 102 runs off 55 balls against Australia in St Lucia. In 2013, he hit his second century against Australia in Sydney.When the other batsmen kept losing, he scored 109 runs off 72 balls. Despite being a consistent player for numerous clubs around the world, his international appearances were minimal. He declined the West Indies’ central deal in order to compete in numerous T20 leagues around the world. Because of his disagreements with the West Indies Cricket Board, he was unable to participate in the 2015 World Cup in Australia. He was named one of ten replacement players in the West Indies’ squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup by Cricket West Indies (CWI) in May 2019.On June 20, 2008, Kieron Pollard made his T20I debut against Australia. There were plenty of explosive T20 finishes as well, including a 15-ball 38 that took Australia out of the 2012 World T20 semi-final. Pollard became the fourth batsman for the West Indies to score 1,000 runs in T20I cricket in December 2019, during the series against India. Pollard became the first cricketer to appear in 500 Twenty20 matches on March 4, 2020, in the first T20I match against Sri Lanka. Pollard also hit his 10,000th run in the style in the same session. He has appeared in 73 T20Is so far, scoring 1,123 runs and taking 35 wickets.

Pollard had a difficult upbringing since he and his two sisters were raised by his mother in a difficult situation. He is married to Jenna Ali and they have a son and a daughter together.
