Lungi Ngidi unavailble for opening match against Delhi Capital in IPL 2021

Kasi Vishwanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has also confirmed that Ngidi will only join the MS Dhoni-led team after April 5. According to Vishwanathan, the South African fast will be subjected to “quarantine” until he arrives.

Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, and David Miller, all from South Africa, will be ineligible for their respective franchises’ opening match in the Indian Premier League this season (IPL). South Africa’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan comprises all of the IPL bound teams. Before taking off for India, they’ll finish the three-match series.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has reported that Ngidi will only join the MS Dhoni-led team after April 5. According to Vishwanathan, the South African fast will be subjected to “quarantine” until he arrives.

“After April 5, Ngidi will join the squad. Ngidi will have to obey the same rules as everyone else and will be quarantined as soon as he appears. As a result, he will not be available for selection in the first game,” Vishwanathan said.

The absence of South African cricketers will be a big setback for Delhi Capitals, as they will be missing some of their best stars, including Nortje and Rabada, who were the team’s top wicket-takers in IPL 2020.

Though Nortje finished the season with 22 wickets in 16 games, Rabada was awarded the Purple Cap after taking 30 wickets in 17 games.

In their season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9 in Mumbai, the reigning champions Mumbai Indians will also be without their star opener Quinton de Kock.
