Mayank Agarwal Bio

Mayank Agarwal is a player who has always shown great stroke play and beauty. In 2008-09, his results in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy catapulted him into the spotlight.

In the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Mayank Agarwal scored a lot of runs. In 2011, he made his IPL debut with Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2018, he made his international debut in a Test series against Australia.

Records

Mayank Agarwal holds the record for most runs scored in a domestic season in India. Across all formats, he scored 2,141 runs in the 2017-18 season.

Career

Domestic Career

In the year 2010, Mayank began his domestic career. He made his first-class debut against Jharkhand in 2013, but he was unable to play to his full ability in subsequent matches. Mayank had health problems in 2014-15 and had to practise on both his physical and emotional ability. He made a good recovery from this time. In the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, he batted for Karnataka versus Maharashtra and scored a triple century. He scores 1000 first-class runs in the same month.

Because of his outstanding batting performances, he finished the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy as the top run-scorer with 1,160 runs. In the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was the top run-scorer with 723 runs in just eight matches. In the 2017-18 domestic season, he scored 2,141 runs, the most by any batsman in an Indian domestic season. He was named in India B’s squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy after his outstanding performances in the Ranji and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

IPL Career

Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired him in 2011 for the Indian Premier League. His success in the Indian Premier League was underwhelming. He was purchased by Delhi Daredevils in 2014 and left them in 2017 to join Rising Pune Supergiants. Following his impressive performance in the 2017-18 domestic season, a host of IPL teams showed interest in drafting him for the 2018 season. Kings XI Punjab subsequently acquired him for the IPL auction price of Rs 1 crore.

International Career

In 2018, Mayank Agarwal was named in India’s Test squad for the series against the West Indies, but he did not play. In December 2018, he made his Test debut against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He scored 76 runs in the first inning, the most by an Indian cricketer in a Test debut in Australia, smashing Dattu Phadkar’s 71-year-old record. In the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, he took over for an injured Vijay Shankar.

Family

Mayank’s mum, Pranav Kumar Pandey, is a builder, and his brother, Raj Kishan, played state-level cricket. In 2018, he proposed to Aashita Sood.
