Murugan Ashwin Bio

Murugan Ashwin is a leg break bowler from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, who was born on September 8, 1990. He bats with his right hand and bowls with his right arm leg break.

Ashwin was a brilliant student who earned a 93 percent in CBSE Matrics, 94.5 percent in 12th boards, and an 8 grade point average in mechanical engineering. He and Ravichandran Ashwin both graduated from the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in Chennai, so they have a lot in common.

Career

Domestic Career

Suresh Kumar was Ashwin’s coach when he began playing cricket at Santhome Higher Secondary School in Chennai and then DAV Public School. His technical career began when he enrolled at Chennai’s Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering. On December 11, 2015, he made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. On 2 January 2016, he made his T-20 debut against Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, bowling for 4 overs and taking 4 wickets. In the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ashwin was the second-highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets for Tamil Nadu.

IPL Career

Murugan Ashwin, who was purchased for 4.5 crores (INR) from the base price of 10 lakhs in the 2016 IPL auction, was the top winner (INR). Ashwin didn’t disappoint, either, with a fantastic performance that saw him take 10 wickets and establish himself as a spinner to watch. After skipping the following season, he was signed by Delhi, where he didn’t get many opportunities. At the 2018 auction, he was purchased for INR 2.2 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The leg-spinner was later acquired by Kings XI Punjab for INR 20 lakhs ahead of the 2019 IPL season. Although he only played 10 games, he failed to find wickets, managing only 5 dismissals. However, he can take comfort from the fact that KXIP have agreed to keep him for the 2020 season, enabling him to start fresh in the UAE.
