New South Wales’ Sheffield Shield 2022–23 season did not get off to a great start. It faced up against Queensland, a team that thrashed Tasmania in its first encounter, and lost that match decisively.

In its debut game, New South Wales did not put up much of a fight against Western Australia. No one else actually scored many runs, with the exception of Baxter Holt (54 in the second inning) and Kurtis Patterson (72 in the first). You cannot win first-class five-day matches in that manner.
The lineup includes Daniel Hughes, Jason Sangha, and Moises Henriques. The batting order for NSW seems to be fairly good on paper, but results have not supported that.
Ben Dwarshius bowled superbly to take four wickets, while Edwards and Tremain provided strong assistance. NSW would be worried about Nathan Lyon’s inability to get wickets.
QUEENSLAND
Most of Queensland’s top hitters are in excellent shape going into this game. Marnus Labuschagne hit a hundred, Joe Burns achieved eighty-five, and Jimmy Pierson also reached the triple digits. There is no question that Queensland has the better batting unit with the inclusion of Matt Renshaw and Usman Khawaja in the squad.
Also rather loaded is the bowling. Gurinder Sandhu, Mark Staketee, James Bazley, and Michael Neser—all of whom are excellent batsmen—brought wickets from the previous game into this one.
We place a lot of emphasis on past performance, and it seems like Queensland has some momentum coming into this match.

The toss-winning team will choose to open the batting order. That has a significant advantage, in my opinion.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
Sydney’s weather is a little cloudy, and there is some rain around. We could have lost a significant amount of time from the game. As the game goes on, the flat surface will aid the spinners a little bit.

Queensland is our pick to win this game. Its batting lineup is substantially stronger, and the bowling staff is also excellent. There is no reason why Queensland can’t open the Sheffield Shield 2022–23 season with two victories in a row!
