Former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja made a big statement about the Pakistani star pacemaker when asked about a possible comeback to the team.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has gone through a series of administrative changes in this past month. Ramiz Raja has been sacked as chairman and Najam Sethi is leading his 14-member committee. Former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi was also named interim chief selector, with his fellow former cricketers Abdul Razak and Rao Iftikar Anjum joining the panel. After the change of government, his Sethi-led PCB made a number of key decisions, including the abolition of the Pakistan Junior League (PJL) on Ramiz’s brainchild.
It also looks like one of Pakistan’s leading pacesetters, forced into international retirement under Ramiz, could make a comeback under Sethi. Mohammad Amir, who last played for Pakistan in 2020, has hinted at a return to the national team after being cleared to train at the National High Performance Center (NHPC). was not on the team under Ramiz as he has spoken out many times about
In 2010, Amir and his two other Pakistani stars (Salmanbat and Mohammad Asif) were banned for spot corrections during the England tour. Amir returned to international cricket in 2016 after finishing his punishment. After all, the pacesetter played a key role in Pakistan’s victory at the 2017 Champions League in his trophy. At a public event, Ramiz Raja, who no longer holds a position with PCB, reiterated his opposition to Amir’s possible comeback in Pakistan.
“Young people must understand that they cannot love the people involved in the repairs. Unfortunately, nine players tried to win the game and two played in an era of cricket that did not. So I feel it on a personal level, and if that happens to you, it will be difficult,” Ramiz said at an event at the University of Government College in Lahore.
“In my opinion, I have never, and never will, respect people like that,” continued the former Pakistani captain. Amir is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
