IPL 2023:
There are several factors that make this an edition of the tournament unlike any previous tournament in the history of the tournament.
The New Year celebrations are not over yet, but cricket fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL 2023 mini-auction was successfully held in Kochi on his December 23rd, after which a roster of all 10 participating teams will be ready.
An official schedule from the IPL Organizing Committee has yet to be announced, but reports suggest the IPL 2023 will begin on his April 1st. Aside from the fact that this will be a brand new season with younger prospects, there are several other factors that make this an edition of the tournament not seen in the history of the tournament. Here are some key things to watch ahead of this year’s IPL 2023:
- Impact Player Rules
This will be the first season the impact player rule will be considered. According to this rule, a team must have four substitutes in addition to the player designated at the draw. The captain can then use her 1 of her 4 submarines on the list as her player to impact. Note that teams may tie impact players before the start of an innings, at the end of an over, and on the fall of a wicket when a batsman scores a tie. In such a scenario, if the bowling team puts an impact player into play in the middle of an over, the sub may not bowl the remaining balls of that over. - The home-and-away format is back
IPL 2023 is ready for a home and away format return. The tournament returned to India after COVID-19 forced the competition out of India last year, but the league phase was all in Maharashtra before business finals in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. However, the traditional home-away format is expected to return this year as the situation appears to be under control regarding the pandemic.
3. Form of Maximum Purchase Amount for IPL
Sam Curran, Cameron Green and Ben Stokes became the top three buyers in his IPL auction history. Sam Curran was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs 185 million while Cameron Green went to the Mumbai Indians for Rs 175 million. Ben Stokes has been sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 1.625 crore. Players weren’t usually at their best when bought for big bucks, so it will be interesting to see how they fare under the pressure of this huge price tag.
