PSL Winners List

On June 24, 2021, the PSL 2021 came to an end. After escalating COVID-19 instances inside the bio-bubble in February, the event was called off. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was able to stage the season’s second leg in Abu Dhabi. Multan Sultans turned their fortunes around in Abu Dhabi, winning the event by 47 runs over Peshawar Zalmi in the final.

Given that the event has now completed six editions, now is an excellent moment to review the prior victors. The only team to have won the competition twice is Islamabad United. In 2016, they won the first season by defeating Quetta Gladiators by six wickets in the lone final held in Dubai.

They repeated the feat in 2018, defeating the defending winners of the season, Peshawar Zalmi, by three wickets in the final. Islamabad holds the distinction of having never lost a PSL final. Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi, on the other hand, have each lost two finals and won only one.

Peshawar’s lone victory came in the 2017 Pakistan Super League, when they defeated Quetta Gladiators in the first-ever PSL final held on Pakistani soil. They won that match by 58 runs at Lahore. Quetta, on the other hand, returned the favour two years later to Peshawar. Quetta entered the 2019 PSL Final after losing two final appearances, but this time there was no hitch as they defeated Zalmi by eight wickets in Karachi.

Only three clubs had competed in the competition final by the time the 2020 season began. However, the league saw two new finalists in the year that was plagued by the COVID-19 lockdown. At the National Stadium in Karachi, the Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars played in the final.

The Kings, led by Imad Wasim, overcame their arch-rivals to win their maiden championship. At the same location where they won their first championship, the Kings will meet the two-time champion Quetta Gladiators in the first match of the 2021 season.
