Shimron Hetmyer Bio

Shimron Odilon Hetmyer is a West Indian cricketer who holds the distinction for being the Caribbean Premier League’s youngest player to score a century. In the 2018 season, he scored a century against the Jamaica Tallawahs at the age of 22. In limited-overs cricket, he is a hard-hitting batsman with a strike rate of over 100.

Shimron Hetmyer was born in the Guyana town of Cumberland on December 26, 1996. He is a right-arm off-break bowler and a left-handed batsman. In his team, however, he is a top-order batsman.

Awards and Accolades

Shimron Hetmyer has won the Player of the Match trophy in four One Day International matches. He was also named by the International Cricket Council as one of the five breakthrough stars of Men’s Cricket in 2018.

Domestic career

Hetmyer represents Guyana in domestic cricket, and he made his First-Class debut for the same team in the Regional Four Day Tournament against Trinidad and Tobago on April 11, 2014. However, he only scored 4 runs in the game, including a duck, which did not bode well for his professional career.

Shimron, on the other hand, did not replicate this in his List A debut, scoring a century against Trinidad and Tobago while playing for the West Indies U19 team at Scarborough on January 16, 2015. In his T20 debut for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2016 Caribbean Premier League, he again scored a duck.

International career

At Whangare, Shimron Hetmyer made his One-Day International debut against the New Zealand cricket team.

He went on to be a prolific scorer for the West Indies, and in 29 innings, he became the fourth fastest West Indian to cross 1000 ODI runs. So far, he has five centuries and four half-centuries in 40 innings.

Hetmyer made his Test debut against Pakistan on April 21, 2017 in Kingston, where he scored 11 and 21 runs in the two innings. He has just 5 half-centuries to his name in Test matches, with a top score of 93.

Shimron Hetmyer made his T20 International debut against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui on January 1, 2018. The match, however, ended in a no-result after the West Indies team failed to bat, and the game was called off. Shimron has a low score of 16.41 in 20 T20 International matches.

Club Career

Shimron Hetmyer has represented a number of T20 teams, including those in the Caribbean Premier League. In the 2016 and 2017 seasons, he played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, and his success earned him a contract with the national team. In the Indian Premier League, he has already played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and will join Delhi Capitals in the 2020 season.

Family

Gladstone Hetmyer and Ingrid Hetmyer had Shimron, and his father used to work at sugar plantations. He has an older brother, Seon Hetmyer, and is the family’s youngest child. Shonette Hetmyer and Shonelle Hetmyer are his older sisters.
