Pretoria Capitals strengthened their lead at the top of the points table in the SA20 with a 52 run home win over MI Cape Town. Willjax won big with his stunning 62 pitches from just 27 pitches. Finally, the Pursuers fumbled by a wide margin, conceding their fourth loss of the season.
Just two overs into the Capitals’ innings, Jax earned a reprieve when Rassie van der Dussen dropped a catch. The opener made the most of his enchanted life and launched the attack in the same over, hitting his Rabada with 6 and 4 Kagiso. The Capitals went from 23/0 in two overs to 84/0 in six overs, with 4 and 6 coming on the whim of the middle two batsmen – Jax and Kusal Mendis. Rashid Khan, Odean Smith and Jofra Archer tried to help Cape Town fight back with four wickets after a powerplay, but Capitals saw him reach half-time for 100 runs. Theunis de Bruyn and James Neesham scored goals in the second half, scoring enough for the Capitals to add another 82 runs. Cape Town were shaken early in the chase when Ryan Rickelton departed in three overs. Dewald Brevis and Sam Curran tried to pull the team out of the situation and get the chase back on track by taking them 6 overs and him 1 for 42. But like Rashid Khan, Adil Rashid stepped in to give the team a breakthrough when they put the Curran away.
Another standoff ensued between Brevis and Lassie van der Düssen as they dragged the team past the 100-run mark in 13 overs. But when Nortje Brevis sacked his 46 to overrun his 30th ball, the pursuers folded. Nortje and Parnell efficiently cleaned up the bottom, adding just 29 runs before losing the last eight wickets in five and a half overs.
