Australian batsman Steve Smith prepares for this year’s Ashes series in England by playing three games for England team Sussex in the four-day County Championship.
Smith’s short-term deal saw him play his three games in May ahead of the Ashes, who start his first Test at Edgbaston on 16 June.
Australia could also qualify for the Test World Championship final at the Oval in London in early June.
In the final Ashes series in England in 2019, Smith scored his 774 runs, averaging 110.57.
Sussex Chief Executive Rob Andrew said Thursday: “It’s great for us and the County Championship to host the best batsman game in the world in Sussex just before the highly anticipated Ashes Test Series. . “I’m particularly looking forward to working with the young players in the team and hope I can offer some guidance,” said Test cricket second-choice batsman Smith.
