Travis Head Bio

Travis Michael Head is an Australian cricketer who has established himself as a dependable middle order batsman in limited overs cricket.

He was born on December 29th, 1993. He is a left-handed batsman who can also bowl off break with his right arm.

In the BBL, Head is a member of the Adelaide Strikers. He’s also played for the South Australian domestic team on a regular basis.

In 2012, he was also a central member of Australia’s U 19 World Cup squad.

Head also has the distinction of becoming the Redbacks’ youngest captain.

He has also represented the Indian Premier League’s Royal Challengers Bangalore and the English County team Yorkshire.

Head has played 65 games throughout his career, scoring 2,165 runs at a strike rate of 37.32.

He’s taken 16 scalps for a total of 59.37 points.


Travis Head is regarded as a competent and fine middle-order batsman with the potential to bowl some powerful off breaks in the limited-overs format.

He is from Adelaide, where he played for the Craigmore Cricket Club at the underage level.

Head has played for South Australia’s under-17 and under-19 teams.


Head made his first-class cricket debut for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield in early 2012, when he was 18 years old.

He had a good start to his career, scoring his first half-century in his second match and getting close to scoring his first century in his third match against the Tasmanian side with 90 runs.

His good results were rewarded with a rookie contract with the South Australian Football League.

Head’s performance was recognised by national selectors, who named him to Australia’s squad for the T20 series against a formidable Indian team.

During the series, he made his international debut at Adelaide Oval, his home ground.

Head was called up to the Australian ODI squad for the first time against the West Indies due to his excellence. On June 13, 2016, he made his ODI debut.

Club Career

In the Australian domestic circuit, Head was a well-known name. A graceful stroke builder with immense strength in his shots. He has been a key cog for the Redbacks over the years.

In the BBL, Head is a key member of the Adelaide Strikers. He has also represented Yorkshire in cricket. In the IPL, he was a director of the Bangalore franchise.


Head was appointed captain of South Australia in February 2015, taking over from Johan Botha.

During the 2015–16 season, as captain, his fortunes began to improve as he demonstrated his class in all three formats of the game.

As Brad Hodge left the Adelaide Strikers, Head took over as captain of the BBL team.
