The dressing room at Holkar Stadium in Indore is named after Rahul Dravid, and the head coach had a spectacular reaction when Shubman pointed it out to Gill in the post-match chat.
Team India secured a 3-0 series win against New Zealand in his third ODI of the series on Tuesday as he scored a convincing 90-run victory. The hosts achieved a mammoth score of 385/9 in 50 overs after brilliant centuries from Rohit Sharma (101) and Shubman Gill (112). The duo sewed a partnership of 212 runs for the first wicket. In response, New Zealand could only reach 295, while Devon Conway scored 135. In India, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav each picked his three wickets.
Gill was named Series Most Valuable Player for his phenomenal performance in three of his ODIs. In the first game he hit a stunning double century (208) followed by an unbeaten record of his 40 and finally another 100 in Indore. With 360 runs in three matches, he equaled Pakistani captain Babal Azam for most runs in the three-match bilateral ODI series.
Following his third ODI win, BCCI released a video of Gil and Head his coach Rahul his Dravid having a casual chat about the team’s dominant victory. The duo share a rich history dating back to 2017 when Dravid coached Gill and his U-19 team in India to a winning World Cup in New Zealand. The young man was the vice-captain of the winning team. Both have also worked together during their respective stints in India ‘A’. After observing Gill’s cricket journey up close, Dravid welcomed the young opener from India for a great performance with the senior team, and the duo discussed Gill’s recent appearances with ODI.At the end of the video Heading over, Gill pointed out a particular gesture by Dravid at Holkar Stadium in Indore, the venue for the third ODI.
In 2015 Holker his stadium dressing room was renamed Indore after the legendary former Indian batsman and captain. “How does it feel to walk into a changing room with your name on it?” Gil asked Dravid on bcci.tv.
The Team India head coach laughed and said he was grateful, but he also admitted he was “embarrassed”.
“feel well. I am grateful for the love I have received from so many people over the years. It is a privilege to be able to practice this sport in this country. The love you get is phenomenal and I am lucky enough to have a talent for playing cricket and have been able to do it for a long time.
“I am a little embarrassed at times. But you are so grateful,” Dravid added.
