Zahir Khan Bio

Zahir Khan is an Afghan cricketer who was born on December 20, 1998, in Kabul. He is a left-handed batsman and a medium left-arm Chinaman bowler.

Rajasthan Royals, an Indian Premier League franchise, recently purchased him for Rs 60 lakhs for the 2018 season of the cash-rich league.

Background

Zahir is from the Afghan province of Paktika, where cricket is not especially common. He began playing at a young age, despite his family’s opposition. He wanted to play, and after doing well in the game, he earned their encouragement.

He was named to Afghanistan’s Under-19 squad and competed in the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup. In the tournament, he played four matches and only took one wicket as Afghanistan was defeated in the semi-final.

Debut

Zahir made his first-class debut against Papua New Guinea in Sharjah in November 2015. Afghanistan won the match by 201 runs after he took three wickets in the first innings and four wickets in the second.

In August 2017, he made his List A debut for Band-e-Amir against Speen Ghar at Khost. He had an excellent performance, taking 6 wickets and ending with figures of 6.1-0-36-6.

The following month, he made his T20 debut against Mis Ainak Knights in Kabul, where he took two wickets and finished with figures of 3-0-33-2.
