Bangladesh’s cricket board initially organised the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) in 2011. The event has been staged seven times so far. Chattogram Challengers, Cumilla Warriors, Dhaka Platoon, Khulna Tigers, Rajshahi Royals, Rangpur Rangers, and Sylhet Thunder are the seven teams currently competing in the event. The Barisal Bulls are no longer in the competition.
The city of Dhaka has won the event the most times (3). Cumilla Warriors has won the championship twice, while Rangpur Riders and Rajshahi Royals have each won once.
The Barisal Burners batted first in the 2012 final, scoring 140/7, which was chased down by Dhaka Gladiators in 15.4 overs, losing only two wickets. Khulna Royal Bengals’ Shakib Al Hasan was named Player of the Tournament.
The Dhaka Gladiators batted first in the 2012-13 final, scoring 172/9. The Chittagong Kings were then bowled out for 129 runs, giving them a 43-run victory. The Player of the Competition was Dhaka Gladiators’ Shakib Al Hasan.
Barisal Bulls batted first in the 2015-16 final and scored 156/4. Comilla Victorians surpassed this total in the final over, losing 7 wickets. The Player of the Tournament was Ashar Zaidi of the Comilla Victorians.
After batting first, the Dhaka Dynamites scored 159/9 in the 2016-17 final. They then held Rajshahi Kings to 103 for a 56-run victory. Khulna Titans’ Mahmudullah was named Player of the Tournament.
Rangpur Riders batted first in the 2017-18 final, amassing 206 runs in 20 overs while losing just one wicket. After restricting Dhaka Dynamites to 149/9, they easily won the match by 57 runs. Chris Gayle of Rangpur Riders, the “Universe Boss,” was named Player of the Tournament.
Comilla Victorians struck first in the 2018-19 season, scoring 199/3. They then bowled well to restrict the Dhaka Dynamites to 182/9, resulting in a 17-run victory. The Man of the Tournament was Dhaka Dynamites’ Shakib Al Hasan.
Rajshahi Royals won the 2019-20 final by 21 runs, scoring 170/4 and denying Khulna Tigers to 149/8. Rajshahi Royals’ Andre Russell was named Player of the Tournament.
