Career
Domestic Career
Russell made his first-class debut for Jamaica at the age of 19 in the 2007 season. Russell, on the other hand, demonstrated what he was capable of during the 2010 season. He was a member of the Barnards Green Cricket Club in Worcestershire, England, and was instrumental in their promotion to the Birmingham League. In 11 innings, he took 39 wickets at an average of 10.15 and scored 799 runs.
In June 2010, he was called up to the West Indies A team, where he smashed 61 off 34 balls with the bat and took 6/42 with the ball against Ireland.
IPL Career
Andre Russell was acquired by Delhi Daredevils for $450,000 in 2013 after a series of outstanding results for the Maroons and in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). However, owing to a shortage of opportunities and injuries, he only appeared in a few games in the 2012 and 2013 editions.
After a few brief appearances for Delhi, he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2014 IPL season, where he was a member of the IPL-winning squad and has remained loyal to the team ever since.
Russell didn’t have a great start to his KKR career since moving from Delhi to Kolkata, as he only played in a few games in 2014, despite the fact that KKR won the tournament for the second time that year without him. But the tide turned in 2015, with Andre Russell being named Man of the Match three times in that edition of the tournament. In his three fifties that season, he hit 326 runs with a strike rate of 192. He was also a standout with the ball, taking 14 wickets to win the 2015 IPL MVP award.
Other T20 leagues
Russell was snatched up by the Jamaica Tallawahs in the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and he became an immediate success for the team. Dre Russ smashed 203 runs at an astronomical strike rate of 189.71 in his first CPL, with his 18-ball-33 in the final clinching the championship for the Jamaica Tallawahs. In 2018, he set a new CPL record by scoring a century in 40 balls.
Russell was signed for the fourth edition of the Big Bash League by Melbourne Renegades as a result of his success. Russell had to fly out to play for his country, so his appearances in the premier tournament were cut short.
Russell struck at a perilously frightening strike-rate of 186.86 while playing for the Sydney Thunders in the BBL 2015-16, picking up 16 wickets – joint-second most – from 10 matches. Russell won the CPL with Tallawahs in 2013, the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014, the Bangladesh Premier League with Comilla Victorians in 2015, the BBL with Sydney Thunder in 2016, and the Pakistan Super League with Islamabad United in 2016. International Career
Andre Russell had a quiet period following his World Cup debut, as he struggled in the series against Pakistan that followed. Soon after, he found his groove in the ODI series against India. Russell batted beautifully in the third session, hitting 92 not out.
Russell’s bat skills were on full show against India in 2011 at North Sound. When he came out to bat, the West Indies were 96/7, and he rescued them with a 64-ball 92.
A few days later, he bowled 4/35 against the same side at Kingston, showing his bowling ability. The West Indies won the game, and he was named player of the match.
Russell demonstrated his all-round abilities in a match on Gros Islet during an Australian tour of the Caribbean islands in 2012. He took 4/61 and then made 41 off 33 deliveries, but his team could not win.
Russell has had an influence knock against South Africa in Port Elizabeth in 2015, when he made 64 off 40 balls to help the Windies win. It was a consolation triumph in what had been a tough tour for the players.
Russell was also named in the 15-man team for his second World Cup in 50-over cricket. As the West Indies finished in the quarterfinals, he had a few brilliant cameos. Due to an injury, Andre Russell was forced to miss the 2019 World Cup and was substituted by Sunil Ambris.
