Mumbai Indians (MI) bought England bowler Jofra Archer for Rs 8 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 super auction last month (INR 80 million). Despite the fact that the BCCI has already declared that the fast bowler would not be available for the forthcoming season, a number of clubs have indicated interest in purchasing his services at the auction.
Archer re-enlisted after originally withdrawing from the IPL 2022 super auction. Archer underwent a second elbow surgery in December of last year and is presently healing from the procedure. His decision not to participate in the IPL 2022 auction was based on his injury setback. He subsequently added his name to the auction pool when the teams were notified that he would be eligible to participate in the IPL 2023 season rather than the current season.
While it is almost certain that he will not play in the IPL in 2022, new recordings of the bowler reveal that he has returned to training and is bowling in full force once again. His progress has fuelled debate over whether Archer would be able to return to the IPL in 2022 and team up with the dangerous Jasprit Bumrah for the Mumbai Indians.
In a recent interview with the Mumbai Indians, Archer addressed the issue. Despite progressing quicker than many thought, the England bowler warned supporters not to get their hopes up, saying he would not participate in the IPL this year because he does not want to hurry his rehabilitation.
“It was always going to be next year, as it is now. I believe I have progressed a little quicker than we all expected. Which is still fine, but it’ll have to wait till next year. I don’t want to inflate anyone’s expectations. I don’t want to let anybody down. As a result, I’m going to say next year “Archer said.
After the end of the IPL 2022 big auction, Archer’s transfer to Mumbai Indians was one of the key talking points, as the England pacer is expected to form a dangerous combo with Bumrah, who is currently one of the finest fast bowlers in the world. The combination can terrorise the top batsmen in the league and help the Mumbai Indians become a formidable force in the bowling department.
In his IPL career, Archer has 46 wickets and has played 35 matches. He debuted in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and has since progressed in both the league and his international career.
