The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is scheduled to take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19, featuring 333 shortlisted players, down from the initial 1166. Among them, 214 are Indian cricketers, and 119 are overseas players, including two from associate nations—David Wiese of Namibia and Paul van Meekeren of the Netherlands, who played in the 2023 World Cup.

Out of the 333 players, eight Sri Lankan cricketers have registered for the auction. The notable name among them is bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who is listed in the ₹1.5 crore category. Hasaranga, previously with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), had a successful 2022 season, claiming 26 wickets in 16 matches. He is expected to be a sought-after player.

Dilshan Madushanka, the young left-arm pacer who performed well in the 2023 World Cup, has registered in the ₹50 lakh bracket after securing 21 wickets in nine matches during the tournament. Other Sri Lankan players in the auction include Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara, and Nuwan Thushara, all listed at ₹50 lakh base price.

The auction will be a significant test for the 10 franchises, with a maximum of 77 slots to fill, including up to 30 for overseas players. Twenty-three players have set their base price at ₹2 crore, while 13 have a base price of ₹1.5 crore. The inclusion of promising Sri Lankan talent adds anticipation and intrigue to the upcoming IPL season.
