Babar Azam has no plans to step down as captain, but former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has announced his choice to take over as all-format captain of former world champions led by star-batter Babar. Former Pakistan cricketer Ali believes Babar should step down as leader of the Green Army. As the Pakistan national team he appeared in 19 Tests and his 50 one-day internationals (ODI) Ali claims he could smash a big record after Babar gave up his leadership role . “Babal Azam should step down as captain. When he leaves, he will break all records and surpass those set by in-game greats. His captain will affect his performance with the bat, so he should focus on batting,” Ali told Cricket Pakistan.
The former cricketer believes star his pacesetter Shaheen Shah Afridi should bet his claim as the next captain of the Pakistan side in his two forms at its purest. As for the shortest format, Ali argued that all-rounder Shadav Khan should be the next Green Army captain.
“Shaheen Afridi should be the captain of Pakistan.If Shaheen Afridi stays fit, ODI and Test he can lead Pakistan in cricket. Shadav Khan could be selected as T20I cricket captain by Pakistan,” Ali added. In his T20I series in April he led the Pakistan vs New Zealand match in his fifth match.
