According to ESPNcricinfo, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would likely have two of its most seasoned players, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, in their team for the IPL 2023 season.
Dhoni stated ahead of CSK’s final league game of the IPL 2022 season that he will remain a part of the CSK franchise and will also serve as the team’s captain, something he had given up prior to the league’s inception.
The suspense had built up building up to the match, and Dhoni calmed everyone’s anxieties by confirming his availability for the following season during the toss. When asked if he intends to return, Dhoni replied,
“The reason is simple: it would be unjust to not play in Chennai and express gratitude.” Also, ideally next year, there will be an opportunity for the teams to go as a thank you to all of the many places where we will be playing games at various venues.”
MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja will remain with the franchise.
Jadeja was given the captaincy of the team ahead of the IPL 2022 season. However, CSK’s poor results and Jadeja’s poor form led the management to reinstate Dhoni as captain.
There were rumours that Jadeja would not be part of the CSK squad at all. However, the all-future rounder’s with the franchise where he has had the most success has finally been confirmed.
“I had the impression it was affecting his game as well.” Is putting this [additional] pressure on him harming his game when he goes to bat or in his preparation? Because I’d like Jadeja to be a pitcher, batter, and fielder. “Fair enough, captaincy.”
“Even if you take away [his] captaincy, if he’s at his best [as a player], that’s what we truly want because we’re also losing a terrific fielder.” After reclaiming the captaincy from Jadeja, Dhoni revealed, “We were struggling to locate a deep-midwicket fielder.”
Although Jadeja is anticipated to continue playing beyond the next season, Dhoni’s ambitions to compete at the highest level are unknown. For the time being, fans will be overjoyed that he will be playing next year.
