Despite having the name Innocent, he bats with a lot of passion and fire. Innocent Kaia just scored his first hundred for Zimbabwe against Bangladesh in the first ODI of the series. It was a challenging chase with more than 300 runs. Innocent and senior teammate Sikandar Raza scored 192 runs together for the fourth wicket, shattering their previous partnership record against Bangladesh of 25 years. Additionally, Raza and Innocent became just the second Zimbabwean pair in ODI history to record double hundreds.
The 30-year-old batsman displayed incredible maturity and did not appear to be a player in his fourth One Day International. In his innings, which ended with a stunning 110, he managed to hit it over 90 mph while playing down the ground. Most importantly, his performance contributed to Bangladesh’s 5-wicket defeat.
Innocent is pleased that his first hundred came earlier and that it enabled his side to secure a victory, but he is not yet finished. He stated that in order to keep up the excellent performance, he hopes to smash a ton against India in an exclusive interview with Zee News English. He stated: “You know, getting in the first hundred is always satisfying. Something that, as you are aware, I always sought after when I first began my job. There will be more. I’m still not happy with it. I simply want to beat India with another goal.”
Innocent previously played age group cricket for Zimbabwe as well as for the A side before making his international debut this year. He acknowledges that the task is difficult as India prepares to play at home, but he also sees it as a potential to win over some foreign players and fans and garner some attention back in India. This is due to his desire to play in the Indian Premier League, ideally with the Mumbai Indians.
Innocent, a supporter of KL Rahul, grew up idolizing Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Ricky Ponting. His first aim is to defeat India in a series for Zimbabwe before securing his own IPL deal by the following year.
“When you play India, it is always advantageous. It is a significant opportunity for me because if I perform well against India, I may be given the chance to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL). All I want to do is succeed for my country. He is most looking forward to his matchup with India pacer Mohammed Siraj. Siraj is highly regarded by Innocent, who believes that playing against him and succeeding will boost his confidence.
Last but not least, Innocent has a request. He believes there is still much to be done with cricket in Zimbabwe given the financial situation the sport is now experiencing.
