IPL Cricket Betting Strategies : Hasaranga Named Sri Lanka’s T20 Captain, Mendis to Lead ODI Side

Sri Lanka made a significant announcement on Saturday regarding the leadership roles in their cricket teams. All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been appointed as the captain of the Twenty20 side in preparation for their upcoming series against Zimbabwe next month. Concurrently, batsman Kusal Mendis will take charge of the one-day international (ODI) team.

According to a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Charith Asalanka has been named as the deputy for both Hasaranga and Mendis. Hasaranga is making a comeback after missing the Asia Cup and the 50-overs World Cup earlier in the year due to an injury sustained during the Lanka Premier League in August.

Hasaranga will be taking over the captaincy from Dasun Shanaka, who has been included in the preliminary squads for three ODIs and as many T20 matches against Zimbabwe, scheduled to commence on January 6 on home soil.

In the ODI format, Mendis assumed the captaincy two games into the World Cup in India after Shanaka’s exclusion due to a thigh injury. Sri Lanka had a challenging tournament, finishing ninth out of 10 teams with two wins from nine games.

In response to the team’s performance, the SLC appointed a new selection committee led by former opener Upul Tharanga, including former player Ajantha Mendis. Additionally, former captain and batting legend Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as a ‘cricket consultant’ on a year-long deal.
