India A secured a convincing victory over England Lions in the second ‘unofficial Test’ held in Ahmedabad on Saturday, thanks to a stellar all-round performance. Saurabh Kumar’s five-wicket haul significantly contributed to India A’s triumph, as they clinched an innings and 16-run win, thus taking an unassailable 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
In the second innings, England Lions were dismissed for 321 runs, with Arshdeep Singh and Yash Dayal accounting for the wickets of Ollie Robinson and Tom Lawes, who were overnight batters. Robinson, who scored 85 runs, fell to Arshdeep’s delivery, while Dayal claimed Lawes’ wicket with Akash Deep making the catch. The visitors’ resistance lasted just 5.2 overs on the final day.
Sarfaraz Khan’s outstanding 161-run innings earned him the Player of the Match award, guiding India A to a commanding total of 489 runs in their first innings, with Devdutt Padikkal also contributing significantly with his century.
Saurabh Kumar’s left-arm spin was instrumental, as he secured his 22nd five-wicket haul, while Akash Deep’s six-wicket haul further bolstered India A’s performance.
The first unofficial Test between the two teams had ended in a draw. The third and final match of the series is scheduled to commence on February 1.
