Mustafizur Rahman, the standout Bangladeshi player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has once again secured an IPL contract, this time joining the Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming 2024 season. The left-arm pacer has made a mark with his wicket-taking ability in T20 cricket, earning him a consistent presence in the IPL.
Despite facing periods of injury, Rahman has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s finest pacers in white-ball cricket. His success in various T20 leagues globally has elevated his reputation in the shortest format of the game, with his variations, particularly his deceptive slower balls, posing challenges for batsmen.
In the IPL 2024 auction, Mustafizur Rahman entered with a base price of 2 crores and was successfully acquired by CSK at his base price. Chennai Super Kings secured his services in what proved to be an economic pick, as no other franchise showed interest in him during the auction.
Having previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, Rahman made his debut in the league with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, contributing to their title-winning campaign. He was named the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament’ and became the first overseas player to receive the award. Despite limited opportunities with Delhi Capitals last season, Rahman has played 48 IPL games across six seasons, claiming 47 wickets, with his best figures being 3/16 in his debut season. The 28-year-old continues to be a valuable asset in T20 leagues with his skillful bowling performances.
