Australian sailor Sean Abbott has signed a contract to play for Surrey in the LV= Insurance County Championship and Vitality T20 Blast this summer.
Abbott, 30, who was at the club through injury in 2021, joined at the start of the season and will play until the end of July. Surrey previously announced that they had signed Kemer Roach as one of their foreign players in the first block of six league games.
“I’m delighted to be back in Surrey this summer and I can’t wait to return to Kia Oval to join the squad and build on our success for the 2022 season,” Abbott said. Abbott’s signing bolsters Surrey’s pace options for their championship defense after it was revealed that Jamie Overton will miss most of the season with a stress fracture in his back.

“Jamie Overton is such a valuable asset to the team that losing him to his back injury is a huge blow. He will receive all of our support through his rehabilitation program and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is 100% recovered.
“In his absence, Sean brings trophy-winning experience to the table and is extremely capable with both stick and ball. I have all the tools I need.”
