Omaima Sohail’s biography: Men’s and women’s cricket in Pakistan were not treated equally. The Pakistan Cricket Board used to centrally contract the male players, whereas the contracts for their female counterparts were made on a match-by-match basis. That was the standard up until recently, when PCB chose equality.

17 female cricket players received central contracts from PCB in January of this year. Although the majority of the names are predicted, few people anticipated Omaima Sohail to be on that list.

She is the lone newcomer with a central contract. However, many who have been carefully monitoring Pakistan’s domestic circuit would argue that the PCB’s decision is a good example of justice being done.

Recent domestic contests have seen Sohail perform well, and PCB Director of Cricket Operations Haroon Rashid again emphasized how contracts have been awarded based on performance. “I am aware that the four players who did not get contracts will be dissatisfied, but the new contracts are performance-based.

I have no doubt that these players will keep trying harder to earn their spots back on the contract list,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Country.

Childhood & Major Teams

Omaima Sohail was born in Karachi, Sind, on July 11, 1997. She has participated in games for the local Karachi Under-19s Women and Karachi Under-21s Women age-group teams. She has also played for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited Women, State Bank of Pakistan Women, Omar Associates Women, PCB Women XI, PCB Blasters, and Karachi Women, among other teams.

Residential Career

At the second Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Women’s Cricket Tournament in 2012–2013, Sohail began her T20 career. She was kicked out of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women team in the first game for a duck. At the 2014 Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Women Cricket Championship Seniors, she made her professional List A debut.

She bowled six overs while representing Karachi Women versus Sialkot Women, allowing just 16 runs to be scored. She was never given the opportunity to bat.

Worldwide Career

At Cox’s Bazar, Sohail played for Pakistan for the first time in an ODI match against Bangladesh. She was treated like a duck upon her debut once again. In the match, her bowling abilities were not used. Her first T20I match took place in Kuala Lampur against Australia. But this time, she was quite skilled with the bat.

Sohail hit 25 runs off only 23 deliveries in opposition to an outstanding Australian bowling attack. The Pakistani team that competed in the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup included Sohail. Additionally, she was a member of the group that competed in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20.

Statistics & Data

Sohail has so far competed in 10 ODI matches. She has scored 119 runs in those games with a strike rate of more than 60 and an average of over 15. She also took 1 wicket and allowed just a little bit more than 5 runs per over in run losses. She has so far competed in 20 T20 Internationals for Pakistan.
