India’s decision was questioned by former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh after England eliminated India from the T20 World Cup semifinals.
Harbhajan Singh questioned why India had not played Yuzvendra Chahal all these time in an interview with India Today.
Harbhajan Singh proceeded by stating that Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, the current spinners for India, were unable to bowl in the style of a spinner, which was one of the reasons for the defeat.
Questioning Yuzvendra Chahal’s Exclusion from the Team, Harbhajan Singh
In the Battle of Champions program, Harbhajan Singh said, “It is hurting, more so because we did not fight at all.
“India batted like an ODI in the first 10 to 12 overs, as if there were still 40 overs left to bowl. England should teach India how to use this format. They performed admirably.
He said of the batting unit, “It is very disappointing to see India’s approach throughout the tournament where they did not look like they would score more than 35 runs.
“I don’t understand why Yuzvendra Chahal, a renowned bowler, isn’t on the team. Since he is not receiving a game, he must have done something to someone. With his credentials, he ought to have been your top pick for a spinner, thought Harbhajan Singh.
India had long supported Chahal in the run-up to the T20 World Cup, but when the bowler had an extended run of expensive stints, they ultimately chose to bench him for the entire tournament. Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin, a defensive spinning duo, were chosen by India instead, but the move backfired against England.
Jos Buttler and Alex Hales smashed the Indian bowlers in the first 10 overs of the match by attacking them during the powerplay and scoring 98 runs without losing a single wicket.
England finished the goal pursuit with 24 balls remaining. Now, Buttler and his group will face Pakistan in the tournament’s title match.
