Gurucharan Singh is a legendary coach who has worked with many Indian cricketers. From Maninder Singh and Kirti Azad to Ajay Jadeja and Murali Kartik, the veteran coaches have stellar resumes. But what he enjoys most is being a player again, and he did just that at an event in Delhi before the New Year.
The 87-year-old has traced his memory trail as photos of Singh showing up in a white coat and punching him were sent to social media. Singh was represented at bat by the legendary coach in a match between the Delhi Veterans Cricket Team and the Old Patriotic Cricket Association.
His pupils Kartik, Jadeja, Sandeep He Jodi, Vivek Razdhan and actor Varun his Bhadra were also present.
The match was held to mark the launch of Gurugram’s Power Play Sports Academy. Created by his Sukhvinder Singh, one of Singh’s students, the site has two of his cricket pitches, including one of his lit.
“Lord Gurcharan has been invited to the opening, can you keep him off the field? he insisted on hitting. We were so excited he stole the single,” Joshi said.
