Sri Lanka have ruled out veteran campaigner Hasini Perera from their 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup after suffering an injury. Perera, a former team nominee, was kicked out after injuring his finger during his session in training.
She was replaced by Sathya Sandeepani and her only appearance for the national team was in the 2020 T20 World Cup against runners-up India. Apart from the mandatory changes, the Asian team has made some changes from the team that advanced to the Asian Cup final last October.
Rashmi Silva and Madhu Shimetananda, two of his players who missed chances in the Asian Cup, were left out of his World Cup squad in favor of Vishmi Gunaratne and Amakanchana. 17-year-old Vishmi made her T20I and ODI debut in Sri Lanka last year. The experienced Ama his Kanchana debuted in his T20I almost a decade before him and was recalled for the first time since his Commonwealth Games.
Chamari Athapaththu will once again lead his 15-man team. Sri Lanka is in Group A, alongside New Zealand, Bangladesh, hosts South Africa and holders Australia. They will begin their campaign on opening night (10th February) against South Africa at Newlands.
