Pakistan has chosen a full-time replacement for Harris Sohail, who will leave the field for the second inning of the third ODI in Karachi. Harris was hit in the side of his helmet by Rocky Ferguson’s bouncer who was chasing him in Pakistan’s 43rd innings over as he tried to get down. The speed gun allowed him to clock 150 km/h and was suffering from pain in the side of his neck while driving. Sohail was replaced by hitter Kamran Ghulam, who played no role in the series.
Sohail appeared dazed immediately after the blow when a physiotherapist from Pakistan came for a lengthy evaluation of a possible concussion. He was eventually cleared to continue batting, but lasted only two more deliveries before retiring due to a miscalculation. A direct hit from New Zealand substitute outfielder Henry Nichols sent him back to the dressing room. Sohail scored his 22 runs on his 25 balls and Pakistan scored his 280 points in three games, his best in the series.
Sohail isn’t Pakistan’s only injury-related absence from Friday’s second inning, as Fakhar Zaman will also be sidelined with a hamstring injury. It held him back shortly after hitting his eighth ODI 100 and he added only one run to his tally. Later, Tayyab Tahir, who was called up to the Pakistan national team for the first time in this ODI series, appeared as an alternate fielder.
