Naveen ul Haqs Fifer suffered his first loss as the Sharjah Warriors beat the Gulf Giants in five games of the first season of ILT20 as they earned a round of 21 win at Dubai International Stadium on Monday. After the Warriors posted his 7-for-151, the Afghan pacemaker returned his 38-for-5 numbers and kept the Giants clean with 130.
Other than David Wiese (35 in 29 balls) and Chris Jordan (37 in 26 balls) there were no notable contributions. When they looked to help keep the Giants on track, Naveen took the last three wickets back in the bag to end the fight.Along with Naveen, Chris Woakes and Junaid Siddiqui also bagged braces and Blowing out the top and middle orders, he cut the Giants down to his 6-for-30 by his 8th over. Witnessing the devastation from the other side, Chris Lynn crawled up to 22-ball 20, temporarily stabilizing the chase with Wiese, adding 41 runs on 30-ball in the seventh wicket. However, this revival turned out to be insufficient in the end.
Earlier in the day, Joe Denry’s 43-ball 58 set the stage for the Warriors’ fighting his score after Tom Kohler Cudmore got his start flying with his 20-ball 36. Mohammad Nabi and Moen Ali provided Denry with some support, but Jordan’s triple strike kept them at bay in a deathover.
