Jalaj Saxena took 400 wickets in first class cricket against Services in the fifth round match of the Ranji Trophy in Kerala on Friday.
Saxena started the match with 392 wickets in 130 matches. In the first innings he picked three wickets before the 36-year-old reached the milestone admirably with his five-wicket pull.
Saxena finished the second innings with a career-best 8/36. His figures for the match were 11/102. It was Saxena’s 37th five-wicket move. He also has his 7th ten-wicket move.
He joined the exclusive list of Indian players who have registered over 400 wickets and scored over 6000 runs in first-class cricket. The club includes supporters like C.K. Nayudu, Lala Amarnath, and Kapil Dev.
With this racket, Saxena scored his 6485 runs at an average of 34.86. He recorded the 14th century and the 31st half century.
Saxena did not enter the Indian line-up, but he was picked up by the Indian Premier League franchise. He was part of the Mumbai Indians, Punjabi Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals camp.
