Shikha Pandey returned to India’s women’s squad when she was called up to the 15-man squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in February 2023.
The pacesetter made her last appearance in India in October 2021 when she raced her T20I against Australia at Carrara. She was left out of her squad for the 2022 Indian Women’s ODI World Cup and was also overlooked at her Commonwealth game in Birmingham.
Despite being snubbed by her national team, Pandey continued to impress with her national competition performances. The 33-year-old has also competed in tournaments in Australia. Goa captain Pandey has taken 11 wickets at an average of 10.90 in seven games in the women’s interstate T20 competition. She also impressed with her racquet, scoring 105 runs for a high score of 47.
In the Interzone T20 competition playing in the Southzone, Pandey picked 7 wickets in 5 games, averaging 9.85. Again, Pandey made a practical contribution with the bat. She had 94 carries in five innings, averaging 23.50. Pandey made her debut in Australia’s Katherine Raymont Shield competition in September, making headlines when she scored 100 points playing for Wynham Manly Cricket Club. She then returned her impressive numbers with the ball – 6-1-7-2.
In the recently concluded Senior T20 Challenger Trophy, Pandey picked two wickets in four games.
