Sunil Gavaskar believes that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will participate in the bidding for New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra but won’t adopt a desperate stance to secure his services.
Rachin Ravindra gained international acclaim during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, making history as the youngest Kiwi batter to score a debut century with an unbeaten 123 against England. His standout performance continued throughout the tournament, culminating in a record-breaking total of 578 runs, the most by a debutant in a single World Cup edition, with three centuries, including notable ones against Australia and Pakistan.
Entering the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of Rs 50 lakhs, Ravindra’s dual skills as a left-arm finger spinner and a reliable opener are expected to attract significant attention from franchises.
While many predict CSK’s involvement in the bidding, Gavaskar initially suggested they might not pursue the young star. Speaking to Star Sports, the cricket legend pointed out that CSK already has alternatives in Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner, both capable players in their ranks.
Although Gavaskar acknowledges CSK’s likely participation in the bidding for Rachin, he emphasizes that the team won’t adopt a desperate approach to secure the all-rounder’s services during the auction.
