Shane Watson has opted out of contention for the Pakistan head coach position due to prior commitments. Despite being the preferred candidate for the role by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Watson, who currently coaches Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was approached to lead the national team in limited-overs cricket. While he seriously considered the offer, Watson ultimately decided to prioritize his existing commitments as a coach and commentator.
Currently engaged in commentary duties for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Watson also serves as the head coach for the Major League Cricket (MLC) team San Francisco Unicorns. With the IPL 2024 about to commence and MLC 2024 scheduled later in the year, the 42-year-old has chosen to decline the coaching role offered by the PCB.
